"Plan ahead, act quickly when needed, and do not confuse hope with a plan."

Nestled at the base of mist-crowned hills lay an expansive, crystal-clear lake blanketed in blooming lotus pads. Nourished by mountain springs, it was a thriving aquatic haven teeming with diverse life. Amidst this deep water lived three mature fishes of formidable size who had shared the same currents for years. Yet while they inhabited the same waters, their philosophical attitudes toward life were fundamentally distinct. The first was named Anagatavidhata—the visionary foresight who anticipated looming storms and orchestrated preventive measures long before disaster struck.

The second fish was named Pratyutpannamati—a creature who rarely bothered with long-range forecasts, yet possessed an extraordinary presence of mind that flashed like lightning during an acute crisis, navigating perils through instantaneous wit. The third was named Yadbhavishya—an incorrigible fatalist and indolent daydreamer. Her dogmatic creed was that destiny was immutable: whatever was destined would inevitably occur, rendering advance preparation redundant and active struggle futile. Side by side, these three unique companions drifted through the sun-dappled shallows.

One twilight, a band of seasoned fishermen bearing weighted nets and bamboo poles paused beside the lake. Gazing across the waters, they observed massive silhouettes rippling beneath the lotus blossoms. The master fisherman pointed excitedly: 'This reservoir is a virgin goldmine! The hour is late today and our heaviest dragnets are at home. Tomorrow before dawn, we shall return with our finest mesh and scour every corner until not a single sizable fish remains.' Lurking concealed beneath a cluster of water hyacinths, Anagatavidhata overheard every chilling syllable of their murderous plan.

A surge of visceral adrenaline galvanized Anagatavidhata. Darting through the aquatic grasses, she summoned her companions and whispered urgently: 'The fishermen return at dawn to drag the entire lake! This sheltered basin is about to become an inescapable deathtrap. On the eastern shore lies a subterranean channel connecting to the boundless river. Under the cover of midnight, we must slip through that passage to sanctuary without wasting a single breath.' Pratyutpannamati reflected coolly and replied: 'The peril is real, yet I am loath to abandon my familiar home on a mere rumor. Should danger ensnare me tomorrow, my intellect will invent an escape when the net tightens.'

Yadbhavishya scoffed dismissively, rolling her glassy eyes: 'Why tremble like newborn minnows? Our ancestors thrived in this basin for generations. If fate has decreed my demise tomorrow, death will seek me out whether I hide in a shallow brook or the abyssal sea. And if destiny wills that I live, a hundred woven nets cannot harm a single scale on my body. I refuse to exhaust myself over hypotheticals.' Recognizing the hopeless futility of arguing with fatalistic obstinacy, Anagatavidhata swam away that very night with her kin through the marshy culvert, safely reaching the boundless expanse of the deep river.

At daybreak, the fishermen cast immense weighted nets across the basin. As the ropes were hauled ashore, Pratyutpannamati and Yadbhavishya, along with hundreds of writhing creatures, were dragged into the shallows. Confronting mortal danger, Pratyutpannamati instantly implemented her desperate scheme: she stiffened her fins, sealed her gills, turned her belly skyward, and feigned lifeless rigor mortis. Sorting through the catch, the fisherman mistook her for a decaying carcass and carelessly tossed her back toward the marshy shallows. The moment their backs were turned, Pratyutpannamati unleashed a furious flick of her tail and dove into the deep abyss. Yadbhavishya, however, waited passively for fate to intervene, gasping and thrashing in the tangled twine until a fisherman crushed her skull with a club. The ancient parable endures: foresight averts tragedy, acute presence of mind rescues the trapped, but blind reliance on fatalism invites certain doom.
