घोंसलों वाला आख़िरी पेड़

स्कूल अपने बगीचे के पास सँकरे रास्ते को बेहतर बनाना चाहता था ताकि अधिक लोग आराम से आ-जा सकें। विज्ञान शिक्षक के साथ घूमते हुए विद्यार्थियों ने देखा कि प्रस्तावित रास्ते के पास एक पुराना पेड़ था। पक्षी नियमित रूप से उसकी शाखाओं पर आते थे और कुछ पक्षी घोंसले के लिए सामग्री लाते हुए दिखाई दिए। विद्यार्थियों को चिंता हुई कि कहीं पेड़ हटाया तो नहीं जाएगा।

The school planned to improve a narrow path beside its garden so that more people could use it comfortably. During a walk with their science teacher, students noticed that an old tree stood near the proposed route. Birds regularly visited its branches, and some appeared to carry nesting material. The students wondered whether the tree would be removed.

वे पेड़ पर नहीं चढ़े, संभावित घोंसलों के पास नहीं गए और हर पक्षी की पहचान खुद करने की कोशिश नहीं की। उन्होंने सम्मानजनक दूरी से अपने अवलोकन लिखे और स्कूल समिति के साथ साझा किए। शिक्षक ने याद दिलाया कि एक बार का अवलोकन अधूरा हो सकता है और वन्यजीवों से जुड़े निर्णय विश्वसनीय सलाह पर आधारित होने चाहिए।

They did not climb the tree, approach possible nests, or try to identify every bird on their own. Instead, they wrote down what they observed from a respectful distance and shared their notes with the school committee. The teacher reminded them that a single observation could be incomplete and that wildlife decisions should be based on reliable advice.

समिति ने योजना पर थोड़ी देर के लिए रोक लगाई और स्थानीय वृक्ष-देखभाल कर्मी तथा प्रकृति शिक्षक को क्षेत्र देखने के लिए बुलाया। उन्होंने समझाया कि पेड़ की स्थिति, जड़ों के लिए जगह, संभावित घोंसले और रास्ते की बनावट—सभी पर विचार करना ज़रूरी है। उन्होंने यह भी बताया कि जानकारी जुटाने के लिए बच्चों को घोंसलों या वन्यजीवों को छूना या परेशान नहीं करना चाहिए।

The committee paused the plan and invited a local tree-care worker and a nature educator to inspect the area. They explained that the tree’s condition, root space, possible nesting activity, and the design of the path all needed consideration. They also cautioned that children should not handle nests or disturb wildlife to gather information.

सलाह पर विचार करने के बाद स्कूल ने रास्ते की दिशा में थोड़ा बदलाव करने और पेड़ की जड़ों वाले क्षेत्र की रक्षा करने का निर्णय लिया। काम की समय-सारणी सावधानी से बनाई जाती और सक्रिय घोंसले होने की पुष्टि पर आगे सलाह ली जाती। अंतिम योजना से रास्ता भी बेहतर हुआ, लेकिन पेड़ को बिना सोचे हटाए जाने वाला अवरोध नहीं माना गया।

After reviewing the advice, the school considered a slight change to the path’s route and agreed to protect the tree’s root area. Work would be scheduled carefully, and the school would seek further advice if active nesting was confirmed. The final plan still improved the path, but it did not treat the tree as an obstacle to be removed without thought.

विद्यार्थियों ने अपने अवलोकनों का प्रदर्शन लगाया, जिसका शीर्षक था—“किसी जगह को बदलने से पहले ध्यान से देखो।” उन्होंने सीखा कि प्रकृति की रक्षा का अर्थ हर बदलाव को रोकना नहीं है। इसका अर्थ है समझना कि उस जगह पर कौन निर्भर है, जानकार लोगों से सलाह लेना और पूरे प्राकृतिक आवास को ध्यान में रखकर सोच-समझकर निर्णय करना।

The students put their observations on a display titled “Look Carefully Before Changing a Place.” They learned that protecting nature does not mean refusing every change. It means understanding what depends on a place, asking knowledgeable people, and making a thoughtful decision that considers the whole habitat.
