"Good craftsmanship considers how a product will be used and who may be affected if it fails."

A craftsperson named Farid made lanterns for community events. He took pride in finishing orders on time and keeping prices reasonable. For an upcoming evening gathering, he had developed a cheaper design that used fewer materials. It looked attractive on the workbench and would allow more families to buy one.

Before packing the order, Farid moved a sample across a testing table. The lantern wobbled and tipped when the table was gently shifted. It did not break, but Farid could see that the design was less stable than the version he usually made. He imagined a child carrying it near other people and decided the test result mattered more than the deadline.

Farid told the organiser that delivery would be delayed. He did not hide the problem or blame his assistants. He asked an experienced craftsperson to review the design and considered a more stable base and safer, battery-powered lighting for the event. The revised model was tested again under ordinary handling conditions before the order was accepted. The group changed the event plan slightly to allow the extra time.

A few customers were disappointed by the delay, but the organiser explained why the lanterns had not been sent earlier. Farid kept a note of what the test had shown and added the check to his future work routine. He learned that craftsmanship is not only about appearance, speed, or low cost. It also means taking responsibility for the way a product will be used, noticing the possibility of failure, and improving it before someone is harmed.
