"Fair exchange depends on transparent measures and the willingness to correct unfair advantages."

Meera helped her aunt at the weekly market. One morning, she noticed that a small basket of lentils showed a different weight each time it was placed on the stall’s scale. A customer frowned. The seller, Ramesh, looked worried because he had not noticed the problem.

Meera said, “I may be mistaken, but the reading seems to change. Could we check it?” She did not call him dishonest or spread the story through the market. Ramesh invited two nearby vendors to help. They moved the scale onto a steady, level table and checked it with trusted standard weights. One foot was loose, causing the scale to tilt slightly.

The vendors paused sales at that stall while Ramesh had the scale repaired. They then reweighed the items bought that morning and corrected any difference with the customers. A small sign explained that buyers could ask for a weight to be checked. The sellers also agreed to inspect their equipment before the market opened.

Some customers had been suspicious at first, but they appreciated being told what had happened and how it was fixed. Ramesh learned that trust is not built by pretending mistakes never happen. It grows when people check facts openly, correct unfair results, and take steps to prevent the same problem again.
