"Repeated lies damage trust, making it harder for others to believe you when you truly need help."

In a quiet farming village cradled beneath mist-laden mountain slopes lived Hariya, an adolescent shepherd boy, with his widowed mother. The village council had entrusted him with the daily charge of pasturing the community's sheep upon the highland meadows and returning them safely to their pens before dusk. Though simple in routine, the duty required unrelenting vigilance and mature discipline, for the pastures bordered a dense wilderness known to harbor prowling grey wolves.

At first, Hariya discharged his obligations faithfully; but within weeks, the solemn silence of the highlands grew intensely monotonous. Listening solely to the bleating of sheep and watching clouds drift over solitary crags chafed against his restless temperament. He hungered for excitement and craved being the center of dramatic attention. One warm afternoon, as stillness enveloped the hills, a reckless impulse gripped his mind. He decided to fabricate a peril to test the villagers and relish the chaos of their panic.

Scrambling to the summit of a prominent boulder, Hariya cupped his hands and shrieked with hysterical frenzy: 'Wolf! Wolf! Run, villagers! A giant grey wolf is tearing the flock apart! Help me!' His piercing cries reverberated across the canyon, reaching the terraced fields below. Hearing the alarm, farmers, blacksmiths, and elders dropped their sickles, seized heavy staves, and sprinted uphill in breathless terror, determined to shield the boy and preserve their collective wealth from destruction.

Drenched in sweat and gasping for breath, the men crested the ridge only to find the sheep grazing serenely and Hariya rolling in the grass, clutching his belly in uncontrollable laughter. The village elder stepped forward, his eyes burning with reprimand: 'Hariya! What reckless idiocy is this? We abandoned our harvest and risked heart failure racing up these cliffs to rescue you!' Hariya sneered through his giggles: 'Relax, elders! I only wished to see how swiftly your aged legs could sprint!' Disgusted by his cynical deceit, the villagers rebuked him harshly and descended the mountain. Yet the unrepentant boy learned nothing; a fortnight later, he staged the exact same hoax, making fools of his benefactors once more.

A few weeks later, as twilight draped violet shadows across the ridges and an icy mist rolled through the ravines, a sinister rustle stirred the undergrowth. From the dark bracken stepped a monstrous, battle-scarred wolf, its predatory amber eyes glowing with famished savagery. Saliva dripped from its bared fangs. Terrified, the sheep scattered in frantic disarray as the predator snapped the spine of a young ewe. Confronting genuine horror, Hariya’s blood turned to ice. Shivering uncontrollably, he scrambled up an old cedar tree and wailed in raw terror: 'Help! A real wolf has come! For the love of God, someone come! I am speaking the absolute truth!'

In the valley below, the villagers heard his panicked shrieks echo through the dusk. But a farmer shook his head with bitter certainty: 'Listen to that insolent scoundrel trying to mock us yet again. Let him scream till his lungs burst; nobody will dance to his whistle today.' Not a soul stirred. High on the mountain, the ravenous beast slaughtered half a dozen sheep, dragging a mangled carcass into the deep ravines. When the villagers finally mounted the hill hours later with torches to investigate the missing flock, they found carcasses strewn in the grass and Hariya shivering atop the branches, stained with tears and terror. Collapsing at his mother’s feet, he wept: 'Mother, I spoke the absolute truth this time, yet no one came!' Embracing him with a heavy sigh, she replied: 'My child, repeated falsehood destroys the sacred bridge of trust. When trust lies in ashes, even the purest truth sounds like another lie.'
