But Ayushi raised a thought: "Let's first check — who among us has sports things at home that they no longer use? Maybe we can share some items between ourselves." The idea wasn't strange — it just hadn't occurred to anyone before.

With approval from the school and families, the club arranged a voluntary swap day. The rules were clear: bring only items that your family is genuinely happy to give; everything must be clean and in good condition; and whoever takes something decides for themselves that it is suitable and safe for them. No one was pressured to bring anything, and no one had to take anything either. This was a swap of useful things, not a dumping of unwanted clutter.

On swap day, several interesting items arrived. One student brought two rackets that had belonged to his older brother and were no longer used. A girl brought a sturdy jumping rope. Another child had an old trekking water bottle that could be useful to someone. Two students came empty-handed — they honestly said they had nothing at home they could offer. No one thought less of them — they had just as much place at the table.

During the inspection, two items were set aside. One racket had a weak string — it was placed on the club notice board labelled "needs repair." One skipping rope had a cracked handle — it was considered unsafe and politely returned. Everything else was taken by students who decided for themselves that the item suited them. Nothing was pushed onto anyone.

After the swap, the club found that three needed items had been collected — with the remaining budget they could buy one new item that hadn't appeared in the swap at all. Ayushi said, "We saved money and gave a good item sitting at someone's home a new life." The teacher added, "And you learned that a swap only works when consent, cleanliness, and safety are all kept in mind."

After that experience, the club drew up a short checklist that would be used every year for swap day: send the request out in advance, get voluntary agreement from families, inspect items carefully, and put no pressure on anyone. This habit didn't stay limited to sports equipment — it spread to books, art supplies, and even old class notes. Small steps together make a big habit — that was the lesson this day gave them.
