The Baker’s Second Measure
बेकर का दूसरा माप
मीरा स्कूल के बाद अपने चाचा की बेकरी में मदद करती थी। एक सुबह आटा गूँधते समय उसने देखा कि “एक कप” लिखा धातु का मापने वाला कप किनारे से मुड़ गया था। अब उसमें हर बार समान मात्रा नहीं आती थी। ब्रेड देखने में ठीक लग सकती थी, लेकिन कुछ ग्राहकों के ऑर्डर में आटे की मात्रा गलत हो सकती थी।
Mira helped her uncle at the family bakery after school. One morning, while preparing dough, she noticed that the metal scoop marked “one cup” had a bent rim. It no longer held the same amount each time. The bread might still look fine, but the quantities in some orders would be wrong.
चाचा व्यस्त थे और बोले कि बाद में जाँच लेंगे। मीरा ने समझाया कि देर करने से ग्राहकों को वादे से कम सामान मिल सकता है। उन्होंने क्षतिग्रस्त कप से नापी गई आटे की खेप अलग रखी और सही माप वाले कप से अंतर जाँचा। चाचा ने उन ग्राहकों से संपर्क किया जिनके ऑर्डर प्रभावित हो सकते थे, गलती बताई और मात्रा पूरी करने या अंतर की कीमत लौटाने का विकल्प दिया।
Her uncle was busy and said they could check it later. Mira explained that waiting would mean more customers might receive less flour than promised. They set aside the dough measured with the damaged scoop and used a properly marked measure to check the difference. Her uncle contacted the customers whose orders might have been affected, explained the mistake, and offered to correct the quantities or refund the difference.
उस दिन बेकरी का कुछ समय ज़रूर लगा, लेकिन ग्राहकों ने सच बताने की सराहना की। अगले दिन मीरा और चाचा ने नया मापने वाला कप लिया और औज़ारों की साप्ताहिक जाँच अपनी तैयारी-सूची में जोड़ दी। उन्होंने सही माप शेल्फ़ पर भी लिख दिया, ताकि कोई दूसरा कर्मचारी अंदाज़ा न लगाए।
The bakery lost some time that day, but customers appreciated being told honestly. The next afternoon, Mira and her uncle replaced the scoop and added a weekly tool-check to their preparation list. They also wrote the correct measure on the shelf so a substitute worker would not guess.
मीरा ने सीखा कि ईमानदार काम केवल अच्छी नीयत रखने का नाम नहीं है। इसमें उन औज़ारों और व्यवस्थाओं की जाँच करना भी शामिल है जिनका असर दूसरों पर पड़ता है, गलती जल्दी स्वीकार करना और उचित तरीके से उसे सुधारना भी।
Mira learned that honest work is more than having good intentions. It includes checking the tools and systems that affect other people, admitting mistakes early, and repairing the result fairly.
