🌟 Moral of the Story
"Intent does not erase impact; when a joke hurts someone, listen, stop, and make amends."

Dev loved asking questions. Whenever he raised his hand, a few classmates called him “Professor.” At first he laughed along because he wanted to fit in. Soon the nickname appeared on his notebook, in the corridor, and even in the class group chat. Dev began keeping questions to himself.

One afternoon, their project group needed to understand a confusing instruction. Dev knew what to ask, but stayed quiet. His friend Leena noticed and asked him privately what was wrong. “I don’t like being called that anymore,” he said. “I told them, but they say I can’t take a joke.”

Leena helped the group listen without arguing about whether Dev should feel hurt. They agreed to stop using the nickname. One classmate said, “I meant it as praise, but I see it made you uncomfortable. I’m sorry.” Dev did not have to accept the apology immediately. The group showed its apology by using his name and making space for his questions again.

Over time, Dev began contributing. The children learned that good intentions do not cancel the impact of words. When someone says a joke hurts, the respectful response is to listen, stop, and repair the harm—not to demand that the person laugh.
