The Weaver’s Pattern

नूर गली का वाचन-कक्ष खुलने वाला था। पड़ोसी उसके प्रवेश-द्वार पर लगाने के लिए एक बड़ा बुना हुआ कपड़ा बनाना चाहते थे। आशा छोटे-छोटे हीरे जैसे आकार बुनती थी। करीम को चौड़ी धारियाँ पसंद थीं, जबकि लीला अपने कपड़े में पत्ते और पक्षी बनाती थी। पहली बैठक में सबने अपने डिज़ाइन एक जैसे करने की कोशिश की। कपड़ा फीका लगने लगा और दो बुनकरों को लगा कि उनके काम को महत्व नहीं मिल रहा।
When the reading room in Noor Lane was ready to open, the neighbours wanted a large woven cloth for its entrance. Asha used tiny repeating diamonds. Karim preferred broad stripes, while Leela wove leaves and birds into her panels. At the first planning meeting, everyone tried to make the patterns match. The cloth looked dull, and two weavers felt their work was being pushed aside.
देव नाम के एक अनुभवी बुनकर ने सुझाव दिया कि हर हिस्से के चारों ओर एक सरल किनारा बनाया जाए। सबने तीन ऐसे रंग चुने जो सभी डिज़ाइनों में आ सकते थे, लेकिन पैटर्न अलग रहने देने पर सहमति बनाई। आशा ने अपने हिस्से का किनारा सुधारा, करीम ने एक धारी का रंग बदला और लीला ने अपने पत्ते-पक्षी वैसे ही रखे। बदलाव करने से पहले हर व्यक्ति ने बताया कि उसके डिज़ाइन में क्या खास है, और बाकी लोगों ने ध्यान से सुना।
An older weaver named Dev suggested placing a simple border around every panel. They chose three colours that appeared in all the designs, but agreed that the patterns themselves could stay different. Asha adjusted the edge of her panel; Karim changed one stripe to match the shared colours; Leela kept her birds and leaves. Each person explained what mattered in their design, and the group listened before making changes.
सभी हिस्सों को जोड़ने में धैर्य लगा। कुछ किनारे ठीक से नहीं मिले, इसलिए बुनकरों ने फिर माप लिया और मिलकर उन्हें सुधारा। उद्घाटन के दिन लोगों ने कपड़े की एकता और उसके भीतर की विविधता, दोनों की प्रशंसा की।
Joining the panels took patience. A few edges did not line up, so the weavers measured again and repaired them together. On opening day, visitors noticed both the unity of the cloth and the variety within it.

The group learned that working together did not mean giving up what made each person’s contribution special. A shared plan can connect different ideas without erasing their identity.
