🌟 Moral of the Story
"A good group decision makes room for people who are often interrupted or overlooked."

The monthly meeting of the Gulmohar Heights Residents' Association was in session inside the community hall. On the agenda were crucial neighbourhood issues: park revitalization, security lighting, and waste management. Yet, just like previous months, the same exasperating pattern repeated itself. Four or five boisterous, vocal residents occupying the front rows monopolized the discussion. They spoke over one another, arguing loudly to push their personal agendas, while the rest of the residents sat in silent frustration.

Seated in the back rows were retired teacher Mr. Verma, Shabana, a college student who used a wheelchair, and Ramu Kaka, who had managed neighbourhood sanitation for decades. Each possessed indispensable insights, yet whenever any of them attempted to speak, the louder voices cut them off mid-sentence. The assembly was disintegrating into a shouting match, and two hours passed without a single actionable resolution.

Farah, a young college volunteer recording the meeting minutes, stepped up beside the dais. Politely taking the podium microphone, she addressed the chairperson: "Uncle, if you permit, could we pause this open shouting for five minutes and trial a more constructive method?" The chairperson, exhausted by the discord, nodded in relief. Farah distributed coloured sticky notes and pens to every single person in the hall.

In a calm, inviting tone, Farah explained the process: "For the next five minutes, no one will speak aloud. Every resident will write down two clear thoughts on their paper: first, the single most urgent issue in our premises, and second, their practical suggestion to fix it." A hush enveloped the hall. Those who were previously intimidated wrote down their thoughts with focus. Moments later, Farah gathered the notes, pinning them onto a large display board under clear categories.

When the categorized notes were read aloud, the entire gathering was astonished. Ramu Kaka's note revealed that an underground drainage junction had been leaking unseen for three months, threatening building foundations. Shabana's note highlighted that cars routinely parked across the entry ramp, denying wheelchair users access. Mr. Verma suggested setting up a quiet open-air book nook in the park. These were critical, insightful realities that loud arguments had completely eclipsed!

The atmosphere in the room shifted from antagonism to deep mutual respect. The residents who had previously dominated the microphones acknowledged their oversight, leading a round of applause for Ramu Kaka and Shabana. That morning, maintenance funds were unanimously allocated to repair the underground leak and safeguard accessible ramps. Adjourning the session, the chairperson thanked Farah warmly: "Today you proved that a healthy community is not one where the loudest voices rule, but one where every quiet perspective is given dignity and room to speak."
