🌟 Moral of the Story
"Our choices affect people we may never meet; leave resources, knowledge, and communities in better condition."

At the end of the school year, Mr. Thomas invited his class to imagine a child who would be born twenty years later. “What would you hope this child could enjoy in your town?” he asked. Students suggested trees that still provided shade, parks without litter, libraries full of useful books, safe paths, and public places that people with different abilities could use.

Their first letters were full of big wishes: no pollution, no conflict, and no one feeling lonely. Mr. Thomas encouraged the class to keep those hopes but also ask what people could realistically do. A future child would not benefit from a promise alone; they would inherit the results of decisions made every day.

The class made a second list. They could use both sides of paper when suitable, return library books, report a leaking tap, learn to care for shared equipment, and make sure classmates were not left out of group activities. They could also record local stories and skills from willing older residents, with permission, so knowledge would not disappear when someone moved away or a memory was forgotten.

Each student wrote a letter with one hope and one action. Meena hoped that the park would remain green, and she joined a supervised litter-pick and helped prepare a request for more waste bins. Yusuf hoped that everyone could use the library, so he asked the librarian to review whether signs and paths were clear. Other students chose to teach younger children a game, repair a book cover, or interview a grandparent about a family recipe.

The letters were sealed in a class box to be opened at a reunion years later. The teacher reminded them that the future would also bring challenges they could not predict. They did not have to solve everything. They needed to leave useful resources, trustworthy knowledge, and caring communities in better condition than they had found them—and remain willing to improve them further.
