🌟 Moral of the Story
"Preparedness means staying calm, using safe practices, and helping neighbours without spreading unverified claims."

A strong evening storm swept through Riya’s neighbourhood, and the lights went out. A message appeared in the residents’ chat claiming that the outage would last three days. Another message said a wire had fallen near the market, but no one knew whether that was true.

Riya’s parents asked everyone to pause before forwarding anything. They checked the electricity provider’s official updates and listened to local emergency instructions. The family used a charged battery lantern and kept a small torch near the doorway. They did not light candles near children, curtains, or other flammable items. No one went outside to inspect wires; a damaged or fallen line could be dangerous even if it looked inactive.

After checking that their own family was safe, they called their elderly neighbour, Mr. Sen, who lived alone. He said his phone battery was nearly empty and he could not read the small text on the latest update. Riya’s mother read the official message aloud and helped him contact his daughter. They asked whether he needed any urgent assistance and agreed on a time to check again.

A neighbour who had a power bank offered to charge essential phones for a short time. Someone else shared drinking water with a family whose stored supply had run low. The residents kept the walkway clear and avoided using lifts until building management confirmed it was safe.

The power returned later that night. The three-day rumour had been wrong. The neighbours decided to keep a basic emergency list, maintain torches and power banks, and share only information from reliable sources. They learned that helping during an emergency means staying calm, taking sensible precautions, and checking on people without creating more fear.
