The Promise Made in the Rain
बारिश में किया गया वादा
लीना और उमर ने छोटे बच्चों के लिए पार्क में कहानी-पाठ का कार्यक्रम तय किया था। उन्होंने चित्र-पुस्तकें उधार लीं, कठपुतली का छोटा दृश्य तैयार किया और वादा किया कि हर बच्चे को अपनी पसंद की कहानी चुनने का अवसर मिलेगा। कार्यक्रम की सूचना मोहल्ले के सूचना-पट्ट पर लिखी गई थी और परिवार उसका इंतज़ार कर रहे थे।
Leena and Omar had planned a story afternoon in the park for younger children. They had borrowed picture books, prepared a short puppet scene, and promised that every child would have a chance to choose a story. The event was written on the neighbourhood notice board, and families were looking forward to it.
कार्यक्रम की सुबह लगातार बारिश से घास कीचड़भरी हो गई और आसमान में काले बादल बने रहे। उमर सोच रहा था कि मौसम सुधरता है या नहीं, यह देखने के लिए आख़िरी समय तक इंतज़ार कर लें। लीना ने कहा कि परिवारों को योजना बदलने के लिए समय चाहिए और खुले मैदान में कार्यक्रम करना सुरक्षित नहीं हो सकता। दोनों ने परिवारों को पहले ही सूचना दी और पास के पुस्तकालय से पूछा कि क्या उसका ढका हुआ गतिविधि-कक्ष उपलब्ध है।
On the morning of the event, steady rain turned the grass muddy and dark clouds continued to gather. Omar wondered whether they should wait until the last minute to see if the weather improved. Leena pointed out that families needed time to change their plans and that the open field might remain unsafe. Together, they contacted the families early and asked the nearby library whether its covered activity room was available.
पुस्तकालय में छोटा कमरा मिल गया, इसलिए दोनों ने योजना बदली। उन्होंने सजावट का सामान कम किया, कहानी-पाठ अंदर किया और बच्चों के आराम से बैठने की जगह बनाई। जगह बदलने के कारण एक परिवार नहीं आ सका, तो लीना ने उन्हें पढ़ने वाली पुस्तकों की सूची भेजी और अगले सत्र की तारीख साझा करने की पेशकश की।
The library could offer a smaller room, so the friends adjusted the plan. They reduced the number of props, moved the reading circle indoors, and made space for children to sit comfortably. One family could not attend after the change, so Leena sent them the reading list and offered to share the next session’s date.
कार्यक्रम अच्छा रहा। बच्चों ने किताबें चुनीं, एक दृश्य का अभिनय किया और बारी-बारी से पढ़ा। उमर ने कहा, “हमने पार्क में कार्यक्रम का वादा किया था, लेकिन अब हम अंदर हैं।” लीना ने जवाब दिया, “हमने उन्हें कहानी भरी अच्छी दोपहर देने का वादा किया था। हमने ज़िम्मेदार रहने का वादा भी किया था।” दोनों सहमत हुए कि परिस्थिति बदलने पर बात छिपाने के बजाय लोगों को समय से बताना ज़रूरी है।
The afternoon went well. Children chose books, acted out a scene, and took turns reading. Omar said, “We promised a park event, and now we are inside.” Leena replied, “We promised to give them a good story afternoon. We also promised to be responsible.” They agreed that it was important to communicate changes rather than pretend circumstances had not changed.
दोनों ने सीखा कि वादा निभाने का अर्थ हर बार मूल योजना को बिल्कुल वैसा ही पूरा करना नहीं होता। इसका अर्थ है ईमानदार रहना, समय पर सूचना देना, सुरक्षा पर विचार करना और वादे के उद्देश्य को पूरा करने का सच्चा प्रयास करना।
The friends learned that keeping a promise does not always mean following the original plan exactly. It means being honest, giving people notice, considering safety, and making a sincere effort to fulfil the purpose of the commitment.
